September 18–19, 2026 | The Pas, Manitoba

Trail Talks 2026 brought Manitoba’s recreational trail community together in The Pas for two days of learning, collaboration, networking and unforgettable northern trail experiences.

Hosted by Trails Manitoba, with the generous support of our Sector Development Partner: Travel Manitoba, Transportation Partner: Destination Marketing Committee, The Pas, and presented by Kiciwapa Cree Nation, this year’s event celebrated the people, partnerships and communities that are helping shape the future of recreational trails across our province.

From exploring northern Manitoba’s remarkable landscapes to engaging in meaningful discussions about trail development, economic opportunities and community connections, Trail Talks 2026 reinforced the importance of working together toward our shared vision: a Manitoba where everyone is connected to trails.

Two Days of Trails, Learning & Connection

Friday, September 18 | Exploring Northern Manitoba’s Trails

The event began with a full day of guided trail experiences, taking participants to Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage and Clearwater Lake.

These visits provided an opportunity to experience northern Manitoba’s natural beauty firsthand, connect with local trail champions and learn about the dedication, challenges and opportunities involved in developing and maintaining recreational trails in northern communities.

The day also offered valuable opportunities for informal discussions, relationship-building and the exchange of ideas among participants.

Saturday, September 19 | Trail Talks Conference in The Pas

Hosted at the University College of the North, the main conference brought together trail advocates, volunteers, community leaders and sector partners for a full day of presentations and discussions.

The agenda featured a diverse range of topics and perspectives:

  • Provincial Trails Coordination Office Update: Ashleigh Hall provided insights into provincial trail coordination efforts and ongoing initiatives.
  • Understanding the Economic Impact of Trails: Michelle Archie of Harbinger Consultancy explored the economic value of recreational trails and their contributions to communities.
  • The Trail Economy, Different Perspectives: A panel discussion featuring David Bosiak, Michela Carriere and Brigitte Sandron highlighted the diverse economic opportunities and benefits associated with trails.
  • Dirt Relations: Patrick Lucas shared insights into the Indigenous Youth Mountain Bike Program and the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for youth through outdoor recreation.

The day wrapped up with an opportunity to experience the Opasquia Trails, showcasing local trail development and the tremendous efforts of the volunteers and community members behind this growing trail network.

Building Relationships and Strengthening Manitoba’s Trail Community

Beyond the presentations and trail experiences, Trail Talks 2026 provided an important opportunity to strengthen relationships among the people and organizations working to advance recreational trails throughout Manitoba.

Conversations throughout the event highlighted the importance of volunteer stewardship, sustainable trail development, Indigenous perspectives, economic opportunities and stronger partnerships across the province.

By bringing together individuals with different experiences and perspectives, Trail Talks continues to create opportunities for collaboration, knowledge-sharing and collective action.
